We started out with a name game to get to know each other and then went over the descriptive words we came up with for SuperGirl last week so everyone was caught up. Our newcomers had the same ideas about what SuperGirl should be like.
Then we jumped right into making our craft for the day, sock puppets, so the glue could dry for our puppet shows. Some had long hair, others were aliens with 3 eyes and one even had a cape.
It was fun to see their imaginations take over and each girl made them unique.
Once the puppets were drying we were off to the deck to enjoy some strawberries, string cheese, fruit snacks and juice. There we discussed how we did on our SuperGirl goal from last week. It seems everyone was saying kind things and they had some examples.
We focused today on saying kind things to ourselves and being confident.
Would a SuperGirl walk with her head down, shuffling her feet? No way! We stand tall, smile and say hello to friends. Greta did a great demonstration for us.
Everyone is unique and has talents and if you put your mind to something you can get it done. I asked them if they thought those girls that would be competing for a gold medal in the Olympics said they weren't good enough to win their whole lives? We all agreed that they told themselves they could win and must have lots of confidence and worked hard.
We need to tell ourselves things like:
I can do it
I have talents
I am unique
I am beautiful on the inside
Each girl told us what she was good at which included swimming, dancing, singing, art and even cart wheels.
Of course, we needed to show some of these skills off so we went to the yard and everyone showed us a talent. There were lots of flips, turns and sommersaults.
We also worked together as a team to pass a hoola hoop down the line while holding hands.
It was time for our puppet shows. The girls were split into two teams and given a scenario that they had to plan their show around.
1) You are on the playground and you hear someone saying mean things to another girl. What do you do?
2) You are new in school and you don't have any friends yet. You are nervous and want to go home. What do you do?
They put on more than one show and had some great thoughts. They enjoyed making up their own "script". Great job!
For free play they ran around in the fort, danced and sang, played school and sat outside and had popsicles.
Pick something that SuperGirl does and do it yourself (be brave, be helpful, be confident, etc.)
Another fun day! See you on Friday July 13th.
